Calculator of Literka Publisher Description

Calculator of Literka was designed to be a new window of program of Literka "Ruler and Compass". It is designed to receive very good approximations for a mathematical expressions. (Up to 450 significant digits of fractional part, up to 900 digits all together.) It computes real values as well as complex values.

We open calculator using a menu item >>Windows>>Calculator. Then we write a mathematical expression using keyboard or provided buttons. Expressions can also be loaded from a file. Then we click on a button “value” to see the value of this expression. This value it is a string, which computer saves to a clipboard. To have it for a later use, we can paste it to any text editor, for example - to a notebook.

By default, computer gives results with an accuracy of (up to) 120 significant digits, half of which are reserved for a fractional part of this number. Accuracy can be lowered or increased (up to 900 significant digits) using menu item “Settings”.

Variables (for example variable “x”) are allowed in mathematical expressions of calculator. However, each variable must be later defined. For example, let us assume we want to compute x+y+1. Then we must define x, for example as x=2*sin(v), y=3*cos(v) . Then we must define v, for example v=2.
These variables must be defined in a “list of variables” using button “New variable”.

To use the complex values option, we have to check a menu item Settings>>Complex numbers.

Only when this menu item is checked, we are able to write imaginary numbers like 'i'. (Of course i*i=-1). All listed functions are extended then to whole or almost whole complex plane. For example, function exp(x) is extended to the function exp(z) defined on the entire complex plane. Function log(x) will be defined on whole complex plane except the point (0,0).

If you use only real values, then it is better to have a complex number menu item unchecked. It is because computing complex numbers takes a longer time (for a computer) than it is in the case of real numbers.
